Peter Ratcliffe's fascination of racing drivers started at the age of 5 years old when attending a race weekend with his motor racing fanatic father John at Goodwood.
In the paddock Peter witnessed a queue of people waiting to speak to drivers such as Hill, Clark and Stirling Moss. Peter asked his father, ‘Dad what are they doing’?
His father replied ‘They are waiting to get their autographs as they are special people’. The next week Peter’s father bought him an autograph book…little did anyone know that this would become a path to LEGENDS IN TIME.
Every race weekend, Peter would spend time in the race paddock seeking out drivers to sign his new autograph book. He wasn’t so much interested in the racing but it was the drivers that fascinated him…to him they became like demi-gods. At the time it was Jim Clark, Graham hill and Stirling Moss who were both famous and at the top of their game.
Peter recalls approaching Stirling Moss who was Internationally famous at the time. Stirling signed his book and was so nice and charming that he became Peter’s boyhood hero on that day in 1959.
Consequently, Peter would take his autograph book to school where their was strong interest in his autographs. He sold a few for 3d the equivalent of 1p in todays money…some would swop him Dinky toys for one of his autographs…. little did Peter know that this was to become the embryo of Legends In time.
